About the State

India is known for its diversity. People live here are from different religion, casts and beliefs. They are from different regions too. India is a country of twenty eight states and seven union territories. Union Territories are administered by the President through an Administrator appointed by him.

In eastern India there is a state known as Jharkhand, which was carved out from the southern part of Bihar on 15th November 2000. This 28th state of the Indian Union was brought into existence by carving out 18 districts from Bihar. The date is important as it is the birth anniversary of the legendary Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

Birsa Munda was a great personality of Jharkhand. Birsa's devotion to his people was such that he was revered as God by his followers, and was called Bhagawan. He was one of the freedom fighters in the Indian struggle for Independence against British colonism. He was just 25 years old when he died. He was born on 15 November 1875 probably at Ulihatu village in Ranchi district of Jharkhand. He died in mysterious conditions on 9 June 1900 in Ranchi Jail.

The state capital is Ranchi, which is also the industrial city of the state. This entire state is encircled by neighbouring states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and west Bengal which shares its border with the states of Bihar to the north, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to the west, Orissa to the south, and West Bengal to the east.

Forests, hills, valleys, waterfalls, wildlife, history, culture, charming towns and vibrant cities – everything embraces the visitor as only a slice of paradise on earth can.

Jharkhand’s awesome scenic beauty is the one thing that never disappoints – the festivals, the music, the dancing, the language and literature, the gracious and handsome towns and booming industrial centers, won’t either. This is one place where the sun seems to radiate hope. The evening sky overflows with stars. The hills seem to be moving like the waves of the sea. The tribal drums weave their rhythmic magic. And the spirit revives in an atmosphere that is best described as unique. Life seems far less complicated and far more captivating when you’re in Jharkhand. Here’s where you can do your own thing – follow what everybody else follows, or break pleasure of a walk-in the-woods.
