Birsa Agricultural University

The Birsa Agricultural University in Ranchi, Jharkhand was established in the year 1981. It is situated 8 km from the Ranchi town and lies on the Ranchi- Patratu road. The objective of founding the University is developing area specific technologies and manpower in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry.

The University has been recognized by University Grant Commission (UGC). It is a member of The Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The University has its jurisdiction over the entire state. The University follows semester system of education. Activities of education, research and extension are carried out through the faculties of Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry and Forestry, along with three zonal research stations and farms, one university farm, twelve Krishi Vigyan Kendras.

In the year 2006, the University established a Placement Cell for its students. Several organizations have approached the University for conducting campus recruitment. Several organizations and banks of repute have recruited students of the University. BAU is a complete residential university.

Undergraduate Courses
Admission to different undergraduate programmes is done through bifold procedure. 15% of total seats are filled by a Combined Competitive Entrance Examination conducted by I.C.A.R. V.C.I. at all India level and 85% of the total seats are filled by Jharkhand Combined Competitive Entrance Examination Board, Ranchi.

  • College of Agriculture -
    The college of Agriculture offers a four-year course leading to the B.Sc.(Ag.) degree. The programmes of the college are carried through a network of twelve Departments viz. Agril. Physics, Economics, Entomology, Statistics & Computer Application, Agril Extension Education, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Crop Physiology, Agril. Engineering and Soil Science and Agril. Chemistry.

  • College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry -
    College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry offers 5-year B.V.Sc. (degree) programme through a network of 17 departments namely Anatomy, Animal Breeding and Genetics, A.H. Extension Education, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Clinical, Medicine, Microbiology, Parasitology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Veterinary Public Healthand Epidemiology, Surgery and Radiology, Animal Production, Animal Nutrition, Physiology, LPT, Preventive Medicine, Pathology and Vety. Biochemistry, Courses on Forage Crops Pisciculture and Apiculture are also offered to undergraduate students along with other production courses.

  • College of Forestry -
    College of Forestry offers four-year degree course. The faculty has seven departments in the College, namely Silviculture, Forest Management, Forest Products Utilization, Extension and Social Forestry, Wildlife Management, Ecology & Environment and Forest Science.
